Thailand and International Labour Organization (ILO) reaffirm partnership to advance decent work and social justice

BANGKOK (ILO news) - H.E. Mr Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour of Thailand, visited the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office for Thailand, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic today to reaffirm the longstanding partnership between Thailand and the ILO and to discuss priorities for advancing decent work, social protection and inclusive labour market development.

Welcoming the Minister, Xiaoyan Qian, Director of the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Thailand, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic, highlighted Thailand's important role in promoting decent work and sustainable development in the region.

"Longstanding cooperation between the ILO and Thailand has helped strengthen labour rights, improve working conditions and expand opportunities for both workers and employers across the country and ASEAN," said Ms Qian. "As Thailand continues to position itself as a regional leader and a globally competitive economy, the ILO remains committed to supporting labour and social policies that promote inclusive growth, resilience and social justice."

Discussions focused on the implementation of ILO-Thailand cooperation activities and ongoing efforts to prepare workers and enterprises for economic, technological and environmental transitions.

Minister Julapun emphasized the Government's commitment to ensuring that all workers benefit from Thailand's development and transformation.

"Thailand is committed to building a labour market that is resilient, inclusive and prepared for the future. We want all workers to enjoy safe and healthy working conditions, access to social protection, and opportunities to develop the skills needed in a changing economy," said Minister Julapun. "Our partnership with the ILO remains essential in helping us align labour policies with international standards while ensuring that no one is left behind."

The dialogue covered Thailand's progress in implementing international labour standards, as well as the prospect for further ratification of ILO conventions. Participants also discussed opportunities to further strengthen labour governance, social dialogue and protection for vulnerable groups, including migrant workers.

The visit comes as Thailand advances major international initiatives, including its OECD accession process, negotiations towards an EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement, and its leadership role within ASEAN.
