Chairwoman Amy Barela's statement post Election Day

Albuquerque, NM - After seeing high turnout and success across the state, Albuquerque voters will have the opportunity to decide critical races in the December 9 runoff election.

"Last night's election proved one thing: New Mexicans are fed up with the direction Democrats are taking our state," Chairwoman Barela said. "Democrats like Tim Keller have had endless opportunities to address the many issues we face, and they have routinely failed the people of New Mexico."

During Keller's nearly nine years in office, crime, drugs, and homelessness have all gotten worse because of his sanctuary city policies. As mayor of Albuquerque, our city has become unsafe at record levels. Keller's mission to keep Albuquerque a sanctuary city is why we cannot afford to keep him at the helm. He has not only fallen asleep at the wheel but has actively taken Albuquerque to a dangerous place with his radical agenda. Sanctuary city policies are making Albuquerque one of the most dangerous cities in the United States as they provide criminals with a safe haven to wreak havoc on our communities.

Democrats have controlled New Mexico for decades and have failed to address the many problems our state faces. Violent crime is out of control, our public education system is among the worst in the country, economic opportunity remains low, and many other issues have been made worse by Democrats in New Mexico. Last night's election results in every county are a loud rejection of those in power who continue to prioritize a left-wing agenda that puts New Mexicans last.
