Minister Byrne marks 75 years of Ireland-Türkiye diplomatic relations

Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, is today (18 April) in Türkiye, to attend the fifth meeting of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

While in Antalya, Minister Byrne will meet with the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister and Director for EU Affairs, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay.

Commenting on the visit and meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Bozay, Minister Byrne said: "My visit to Türkiye is particularly timely as we mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between our countries. I look forward to discussing issues of importance to both Ireland and Türkiye during my meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Bozay. My visit to Türkiye also provides a good opportunity to explore opportunities to enhance EU-Turkish cooperation, in the context of the Irish EU Presidency."

Minister Byrne continued: "At a time of global instability, the Antalya Diplomacy Forum provides an important channel of international engagement. During my attendance at the forum, I look forward to setting out my thoughts and ambitions, as European Affairs Minister, on the topic of 'Europe's Competitiveness in the Age of Uncertainties', in the context of the Irish EU Presidency."
