TOPEKA, Kan. - The Washburn University Music & Theatre Department will host the annual Capital City Marching Band Festival Wednesday, Oct. 1, in Yager Stadium. The festival will feature more than 750 students and their directors from eight Kansas high schools: Junction City, Leavenworth, Hayden Catholic, McLouth, Topeka High, Topeka West, Shawnee Heights and Seaman. The public is welcome to attend with the cost of admission.
When: 1:30-3:45 p.m. (gates open at 1 p.m., close at 4 p.m.); 6-8 p.m. (gates reopen at 5 p.m., close at 8:30 p.m.), Wednesday, Oct. 1
Afternoon Schedule
1:30 p.m. - Junction City High School
2 p.m. - Leavenworth High School
2:30 p.m. - Hayden Catholic High School
3 p.m. - McLouth High School
3:30 p.m. - Awards ceremony
Evening Schedule
6 p.m. - Leavenworth High School
6:15 p.m. - Topeka High School
6:30 p.m. - Junction City High School
6:45 p.m. - Topeka West High School
7 p.m. - Shawnee Heights High School
7:15 p.m. - Seaman High School
7:30 p.m. - Washburn University Marching Band
7:45 p.m. - Awards ceremony
Where: Yager Stadium, Washburn University campus
Admission: Adults $10; students, children and seniors $5; children 5 and under free. Cash only at the gate. All proceeds support the Washburn University Marching Band program.
Parking: Spectators can use west campus parking lots 9, 10 and 11. Lots 8 and R will be closed, with most of Lot 4 closed except for a few rows by 19th Street. View the campus map at https://www.washburn.edu/about/visit/virtual-tour/.
"Holding this competition allows younger performers in our community to exhibit their talent closer to home, and it allows us to showcase the programs and facilities at Washburn University," said Dr. Anya Pogorelova, director of bands, Washburn. "The Washburn University marching band students, many of whom graduated from these high schools, really look forward to welcoming their former classmates and band directors to our campus every year."
