City to Deploy White Flag Activation Tonight

The City of Greensboro will activate White Flag warming centers Wednesday, January 28, in response to anticipated freezing temperatures overnight.

The following locations will provide overnight shelter from 7 pm until 7 am:

First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., will be open to single adults and families.

Glenwood Recreation Center, 2010 Coliseum Blvd., will be open to women and families.

Interactive Resource Center (IRC) employees trained to work with special populations and coordinate services upon request will staff First Baptist Church. Glenwood Recreation Center will be staffed by IRC employees and the City's Community Safety Department.

The City activates White Flag status when the actual or "feels-like" temperature is 32 degrees or less for two or more hours. A White Flag alert can take effect when the forecast or current conditions include a winter weather event with freezing precipitation, extended below-freezing temperatures, and/or wind concerns, which may impact homeless encampments.
