UT Ranked No. 2 Nationally in New Manhattan Institute College Rankings

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas at Austin has been named one of the top universities in the country in the 2025 college rankings by the Manhattan Institute's City Journal, earning the No. 2 overall ranking among 100 of America's most prestigious public and private institutions.

According to its methodology, the rankings evaluate how effectively universities prepare students for success while upholding academic excellence, institutional integrity, viewpoint diversity, and a healthy campus culture. The rankings reflect detailed analysis of 68 factors across four broad categories: Leadership Quality, Educational Experience, Student Experience, and Outcomes.

UT ranked No. 2 for Leadership Quality, protection of free speech and other related factors. The University also ranked highly in Outcomes, which measures the value it adds to education and careers and the time it takes students to recoup what they pay for their degree.

"While national rankings will never define us as an institution, they do reflect the world-class quality of our faculty and students and the excellence and rigor of our academic mission," said William Inboden, executive vice president and provost. "At UT, we provide an unmatched educational and social experience for our students as we prepare them for both professional success and citizenship. We are honored that this ranking recognizes that and much more."

Contributing to its overall performance, UT ranked in the top 10 in other key subcategories, including the quality and impact of its alumni network, teaching quality of its faculty, and social life of its students.
