Fairfield City Council appoints Rick Vaccaro as mayor

The Fairfield City Council voted 5-1 during Tuesday night's meeting to appoint former Councilmember Rick Vaccaro to the position of Mayor. This appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of former Mayor Catherine "Cat" Moy on June 9.

Per direction from City Council, the City Clerk verified Vaccaro's eligibility to hold office. With confirmation of eligibility, Vaccaro was sworn in to the office of Mayor the afternoon of Wednesday, June 17. By moving forward with the appointment, Vaccaro will serve in this capacity until the election on November 3, and the duly elected mayor from the election is sworn into office on December 15, 2026.

Vaccaro brings a long history of municipal service to the role. He first joined the Fairfield City Council in October 2008, when he was appointed to fill the seat of the late Councilmember Matt Garcia. He went on to serve a total of 16 years on the council, including four years as the city's Vice Mayor, before retiring from the dais in December 2024.

Information on upcoming elections will be posted at www.fairfield.ca.gov.
