Dashboard gives residents clear view of City progress

Today, Mayor Jacob Frey announced the full launch of the City's Mayoral Dashboard, a first-of-its-kind public tool providing regular updates on several of Minneapolis' top priorities. The interactive dashboard tracks progress in the areas of crime, recruitment and retention, climate action, public health (opioid response), economic inclusion, and homelessness response.

Built in partnership with the City's Performance Management and Innovation Department (PMI), the Mayoral Dashboard is designed to make government more transparent, accountable, and data-driven.

"People deserve to know how their government is working for them-and this dashboard puts that information at their fingertips," said Mayor Jacob Frey. "By tying our work to measurable goals and sharing that progress in real time, we're building trust and showing residents exactly how we're moving the needle on the issues that matter most."

The dashboard is designed to build a bridge between City Hall and the public, making complex information accessible and actionable for residents, journalists, researchers, and community partners. By providing easy-to-read charts, maps, and trends, the tool empowers residents to see how their tax dollars are being put to work and measure progress across the city.

Each section of the dashboard features regularly updated metrics, including:

1. Community Safety - Monthly counts compared to prior years, with interactive maps and trends, and average police and fire response times.
2. Recruitment - Workforce vacancy rates, fill times for positions, and equitable hiring.
3. Climate Action - Progress toward emissions reduction goals, renewable energy use, and Green Cost Share participation.
4. Public Health (Opioid Response) - Narcan distribution, overdose prevention efforts, and treatment referral rates.
5. Downtown Economic recovery- Office vacancy rate and local taxes collected.
6. Homelessness Response - Residents reached at encampments by the City's homeless response team, 311 calls about encampments, and impacted individuals at encampment closures.

"This dashboard is more than data-it's a tool for building a shared understanding of where we stand and where we're headed. The more residents can see and understand our data, the better they can engage in shaping solutions," said City Operations Officer Margaret Anderson Kelliher. "Thank you to Mayor Frey for championing this work and to our Performance Management and Innovation Department for creating a tool that will serve our residents for years to come."

"Transparency and accountability are cornerstones to reforming community safety and rebuilding trust in our community," said Community Safety Commissioner Todd Barnette. "The mayor's dashboard is one more way to show our residents, community members, and visitors our progress while, at the same time, identifying both strengths and gaps so we can be held accountable for the work we do."

The dashboard updates continuously, getting information from City departments and leaders, and presenting it in an accessible, user-friendly format.

"This is a new level of openness that we're proud to debut here in the City of Minneapolis-and it's just the beginning.
