Kean Secures $3.7 Million to Support Local Police Departments

(November 13, 2025) WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) announced that he secured $3.7 million in federal funding to support police departments in New Jersey's Seventh Congressional District. The funding will provide critical facility upgrades and renovations for police departments in Byram Township, Readington Township, and Holland Township.

This funding was made possible through Congressman Kean's support for the Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026 (H.R.5371), which passed the House on November 12, 2025. The legislation was immediately signed into law later that evening.

"As communities grow and demands on local law enforcement increase, it is essential that our police officers have modern, safe, and functional facilities," said Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. "At a time when others are trying to cut funding for law enforcement, I fought to ensure our officers had the resources they need to protect and serve effectively. I will always stand with the men and women in blue who put themselves in harm's way to protect our families, neighborhoods, and communities."

Congressman Kean submitted the following projects to the FY2026 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which was enacted as part of H.R. 5371:

  • Byram Township: $1,237,500 to provide renovations and new facilities to the Byram Township Police Department. The Township is in dire need of a new police department headquarters, as they are currently operating out of a set of mobile construction trailers from the 1970s. This funding will allow the police department to move into an existing 4,500 square foot office building and renovate it to be suitable to house their police headquarters.
  • Readington Township: $1,932,287 to provide the expansion and modernization of the Readington Township Police Department. The initiative aims to enhance the operational capacity, efficiency, and community engagement of the department through strategic upgrades and expansion efforts. The department seeks funding specifically for additional offices, holding cells, briefing rooms, and training areas with the addition of a modern security system and technology infrastructure for data sharing, communication, and improved response.
  • Holland Township: $555,000 to provide funds to modernize and renovate the Holland Township Police Department. The Police Department Headquarters was first constructed in 1976 when the department was comprised of only four officers and handled a limited number of service calls. Today, the department has 14 officers and handled 5,648 service calls in 2023. The current space lacks sufficient office space, locker facilities, and processing areas, hindering officers' ability to work effectively, coordinate resources, and serve the community. Both the interior and exterior need to be brought up to modern standards.

As part of the FY2026 Community Project Funding (CPF) process, Congressman Kean advocated for local priorities identified by community leaders and local officials. In May 2025, he submitted 15 Community Project Funding requests to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration in the FY2026 appropriations bills. Three of these projects - the police department renovations in Byram, Readington, and Holland Townships - were included in the final FY2026 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which was signed into law.

The remaining CPF requests are still under consideration in additional appropriations bills pending in the House. To view the full list of Congressman Kean's FY2026 Community Project Funding requests, please click HERE.
