Waynesburg University senior Cami Myers has been selected as a recipient of the 2026-27 Commonwealth Good Citizen Scholarship, awarded through the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP).

The scholarship recognizes Pennsylvania independent college and university students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and a commitment to service.

Myers is one of 10 students selected to receive the honor from a substantial pool of applicants. The $2,300 award will be applied to her Waynesburg University student account for the 2026-27 academic year.

"I am incredibly honored and blessed to be a recipient of the AICUP Good Citizen Scholarship," said Myers. "Service has always been a huge part of my life, helping shape me into who I am today and inspiring the career I plan to pursue. I am beyond grateful for this support as I continue my education into my senior year at Waynesburg University and work toward a future dedicated to protecting and giving back to my community."

A forensic science major with minors in biology and chemistry, Myers chose Waynesburg University because of its emphasis on service and learning. She plans to pursue a career as an arson and explosion investigator after graduation, combining her passion for science with her commitment to serving and protecting communities.

Myers' dedication to service was shaped in part by her involvement with the Gallitzin (Pennsylvania) Fire Company in her hometown. Inspired by the commitment of the firefighters she grew up around, including her younger brother, Myers became involved with the fire company, participating in community service efforts and supporting fire response activities.

At Waynesburg, Myers has continued her commitment to service and leadership. As a Bonner Scholar and an intern for the Bonner Office, she helps coordinate service opportunities and encourages student involvement in community engagement. She also serves as an orientation leader, helping incoming students transition to college life while providing mentorship and fostering a welcoming campus environment.

Through her experiences with the fire company, Myers has developed an understanding of fire scene safety and the importance of teamwork in high-pressure situations. Her campus leadership roles have further strengthened her communication, organizational and leadership skills.

Following graduation, Myers hopes to remain connected to the fire service while using her education and training to investigate fires, improve prevention efforts and promote safety for first responders and the communities they serve.

"Service will always be at the heart of who I am, both in my career and in my personal life," Myers wrote in her scholarship essay.
