Deputy Minister Bernice Swarts visits DFFE projects in Mpumalanga and engages with traditional leaders, 9 Mar

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Bernice Swarts, will on 09 and 10 March 2026 visit Mbombela and Nkomazi Local Municipalities in Mpumalanga to inspect projects implemented by the Department.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Swarts will also meet with Mpumalanga government leaders and traditional leaders to discuss ways to improve service delivery in municipalities in the province as part of the District Development Model (DDM) - One Plan.

Deputy Minister Swarts serves as the DDM Champion for the Ehlanzeni District Municipality. The DDM, also known as One Plan, aims to support municipalities to better plan, budget and implement development projects and programmes.

As part of her role as DDM Champion, Deputy Minister Swarts will use the visit to showcase some of the flagship initiatives of the Department that are being implemented in the province to strengthen environmental governance and service delivery at municipal level.

Some of the projects that the Deputy Minister will visit include:

  • DL Consulting Buyback Centre in White River, Mbombela
  • Untum Recycling in Buffelspruit ka-Masimini
