Maryland to Host Community Meeting on State Center Redevelopment Strategy

Meeting and Launch of New Project Website Marks Next Phase of Redevelopment Strategy

BALTIMORE, MD (June 8, 2026) - The Maryland Department of General Services and the Maryland Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Maryland Economic Development Corporation, will host a community meeting to discuss the State Center Redevelopment Strategy and launch a new project website that will provide information, resources, and updates throughout the planning process.

The State Center Community meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at Baltimore Unity Hall, 1505 Eutaw Place, Baltimore. Community members, stakeholders, and interested organizations are invited to attend the meeting to meet the project team, learn more about the redevelopment strategy, receive updates on completed work, and learn about the schedule for next steps in the planning process. In addition to the in-person meeting, community members can also join virtually by registering here .

"From gathering and elevating community feedback to engaging local industry partners, this redevelopment is being shaped by Marylanders and for Marylanders," said DGS Secretary Atif Chaudhry. "The people who live and work here have the greatest stake in this project's success. That's why it is essential that they have access to the information and resources they need through an easy-to-use website, as well as a valued voice at the table during our upcoming meeting. Transparency and collaboration are the standard for this project, and are fundamental to how we serve the people of Maryland."

"This redevelopment has been a long time coming, and from the beginning, we've made it clear that our residents should have a leading role in shaping the project," said Baltimore City Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "This community has fought for this investment for years, and as it finally takes shape, it's critical that they be involved every step of the way. I'm confident that together, they will help our State partners deliver opportunities for housing, workforce development, transit access, and neighborhood revitalization."

"This redevelopment represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for our community, and the people who call these neighborhoods home deserve a meaningful voice in shaping what comes next," said State Senator Antonio Hayes. "The strongest projects are built with communities, not around them. By engaging residents from Upton, McCulloh Homes, and Bolton Hill from the beginning, we can create a vision that reflects local priorities and delivers lasting benefits for families and neighborhoods across Baltimore."

As part of the redevelopment strategy process, project partners will share information gathered over the past year regarding existing site conditions, building assessments, and the overall project schedule. The June meeting is the first of three planned community updates that will occur throughout development of the strategy.

"With direct access to Metro Subway and Light Rail stations, and located less than a mile from Baltimore Penn Station, the Maryland Department of Transportation is excited to share the progress made on transforming the State Center Complex into a dense, thriving community centered around transit," said Maryland Transportation Secretary Katie Thomson. "We will continue to work with our partners and the community on advancing the transit-oriented development of State Center."

The newly launched project website, Baltimore State Center , will serve as the central source for project information, upcoming engagement opportunities and project updates throughout the planning process. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for community members to make their voices heard and offer feedback.

The redevelopment strategy is expected to be completed in 2026 and will establish a clear implementation framework to guide future redevelopment of the State Center site, including the identification and solicitation of a qualified development partner to deliver the project.

Background on the Redevelopment Project

The State Center Redevelopment Strategy is a collaborative effort between the Maryland Department of General Services, Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Economic Development Corporation and the State Center Working Group, in coordination with Baltimore City, to establish a clear vision and implementation strategy for the future repositioning and redevelopment of the 28-acre State Center complex in Baltimore City. Building on the City's 2024 State Center Vision and Market Study and Governor Wes Moore's announcement of a transit-oriented redevelopment approach for the site, the strategy will evaluate opportunities for housing, economic development, public spaces, transit integration, and future public and private investment.
