Need to report a tax violation or identity theft? Make MyDORWAY your first stop.

Protecting yourself from fraud begins with online safety. But if you suspect you're already a victim of identity theft or tax fraud, report it to the SCDOR immediately using MyDORWAY, our free online tax portal.

Report tax violations

Use the new Tax Violation Complaint form at dor.sc.gov/tax-violation-complaint if you suspect or know of an individual or business that has committed a state tax crime, such as tax evasion or tax fraud.

You'll need to provide:

  • The name and address of the individual or business you are reporting
  • A brief description of the violation you're reporting, and how you learned about it
  • Your name and contact information, if you wish to speak to the SCDOR about the situation. Any information you provide will be kept confidential.

Report suspected identity theft or data breaches

Use the ID Theft & Breach Report at dor.sc.gov/ID-theft-breach if you believe you are a victim of identity theft or if your business has experienced a breach of taxpayer data. The SCDOR views each report and will respond with questions and findings.

Important: ID Theft reports are treated as confidential and any information submitted, including Social Security numbers, is held in a safe and secure manner.

If you're an individual reporting identity theft, you'll need to provide:

  • Your name, address, SSN, and contact information
  • An image of your Social Security card or other state-issued photo ID. (No scanner? No problem - take a picture using your smartphone.)
  • Detailed information about the incident

Businesses and tax preparers reporting a breach of their systems will provide:

  • A list of affected FEINs, EFINs, and PTINs
  • The date the breach occurred
  • The type of data that was taken
  • The number of affected clients or employees

The SCDOR will email you with details and next steps after you submit the report.

Also consider filing a report with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA), which has resources to help.
