FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The City of Fort Collins invites community members to join three upcoming pop-up events in Old Town Square during October to learn about potential updates to the downtown parking system and to share input before decisions are finalized.
Event Details
As part of the City's Downtown Parking Management Update process, these engagement sessions are designed to help inform Fort Collins' approach to managing parking in the downtown core. With growing demand and evolving downtown activity, the City is exploring opportunities to make the parking system more user-friendly, encourage efficient turnover and fund its own operations sustainably.
These pop-ups will allow community members to view visual data, ask questions and contribute feedback that will help shape recommended strategies moving forward. No RSVP is required; attendees are welcome to come and go during event hours.
Fort Collins currently operates under a system in which on-street parking is free while garages are fee-based. This "upside-down" model can discourage use of parking garages and lead to congestion and reduced availability for short-term parkers. The City has engaged Walker Consultants in partnership with the Downtown Development Authority to study parking supply, demand, fee structure, enforcement hours, permit zoning and related options. These pop-ups are part of the community engagement phase preceding final recommendations presented to City Council.
"Collecting input from downtown users and neighbors will ensure the final plan reflects community needs," City of Fort Collins Parking Services Senior Manager Eric Keselburg said. "These pop-ups are designed to be informal and accessible - folks can stop by, ask questions, see the potential data and tell us what matters to them."
