The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is planning to remove and install pavement markings and signs and perform selective vegetation trimming on roadways in advance of and at the Metro-North and Amtrak railroads, highway-railway grade crossings across Connecticut in Ansonia, Bethel, Danbury, Darien, Enfield, Groton, Meriden, Milford, New Canaan, New London, North Haven, Norwalk, Old Saybrook, Redding, Stamford, Stonington, Wallingford, Waterford, Wilton and Windsor. The proposed improvements will be following national standards and are intended to increase visibility of grade crossings to decrease the number of vehicles turning into the railroad tracks and reduce the potential for vehicle-train crashes.
The project is tentatively expected to be constructed during the 2026 construction season. This project will be undertaken with 90% federal and 10% state funds.
