FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CITY OF FULLERTON TO INVEST $3 MILLION TOWARD INDEPENDENCE PARK REVITALIZATION FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF UNION PACIFIC PARK AND TRAIL PROJECTS
FULLERTON, CA (January 26, 2026) - The City of Fullerton recently completed two major park improvement projects: the reopening of Union Pacific Park, which celebrated its Grand Opening Ceremony this past weekend, and the construction of the new Union Pacific Trail, a multi-use corridor extending through the City and connecting directly to Union Pacific Park. With these capital projects now open, the City is excited to begin the Independence Park Revitalization Project, which was formally approved by the City Council as part of the annual Operating and Capital Improvements Budget process.
Phase I of the Independence Park Revitalization Project is supported by approximately $3 million in local, state, and county funding and is designed to address immediate infrastructure and accessibility needs within the park. Planned improvements include construction of the City's first adaptive playground, restroom facilities, landscape and irrigation upgrades, and interior renovations to the gymnasium. Subsequent phases will be implemented when additional funding sources become available.
In support of long-range planning, the City has also begun development of a comprehensive Parks Master Plan intended to guide future investments in parks, recreation facilities, and open space throughout Fullerton. The planning effort will include opportunities for stakeholder engagement and structured public input to help inform priorities and policy direction.
