S1

Construction continues to make steady progress along the State Route (SR) 316 corridor, with visible activity across several key locations in Barrow County.

Crews have advanced grading operations throughout the project area, shaping the roadway and preparing it for paving. Work has progressed along the new frontage roads near Craft Road and McCarty Road, as well as on Barber Creek Road and Bethlehem Road. These areas are beginning to take on their final form as earthwork continues.

Installation of drainage systems is also advancing, improving how stormwater will flow once the new roads open. Crews have been active near the new Bethlehem Road roundabout and other local connections to ensure proper drainage and long-term roadway durability.

Bridge work remains a key focus. At Bethlehem Road and Barber Creek Road, crews have successfully set the bridge beams and are now installing the metal decking that will support the future concrete driving surface.

Erosion control and maintenance activities continue throughout the corridor, ensuring we protect nearby waterways and maintain safe, clean work zones. Traffic control measures remain in place to ensure safety for both motorists and construction teams.

S2

In the weeks ahead, paving operations will begin in areas where grading and base work are complete. Bridge crews at Bethlehem and Barber Creek Road will continue progress on the new bridge by completing the metal decking and preparing for the upcoming concrete work. Across the corridor, crews will also continue drainage and erosion control activities to stabilize newly graded dirt or soil.

Stay Safe This Season: Drive Smart for the Holidays

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for Georgia's roadways as families travel to visit loved ones and celebrate the season. With increased traffic on SR 316 and nearby routes, drivers are reminded to plan ahead and stay alert to ensure everyone arrives safely.

Holiday Travel Safety Tips:

  • Plan Ahead

  • Stay Alert

  • Slow Down in Work Zones

By keeping safety top of mind this holiday season, we can all help make Georgia's roads safer for travelers and construction crews alike.

S5

GDOT is anticipating record-breaking holiday travel this year across Georgia. Last year, AAA projected about 3.7 million Georgians would travel 50 miles or more during the year-end holidays, nearly 109,000 more than the previous record in 2023! As you make your holiday plans, give yourself extra time, stay alert on the road, and enjoy the ride.
