Peoria County - Peoria County's Bicentennial Block Party is set for this Saturday, Oct. 4 from 3-7 p.m., and we have a full line-up of events for the public to enjoy.
The winning design from the Mini-Bison Contest will be unveiled on a large-scale bison sculpture during a brief ceremony on the stage at Main and Adams at 3:05 p.m. The 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band will play on stage from 3:15-4:15 p.m., followed by a visit by Abraham Lincoln from 4:30-4:50 p.m. The band Maggie Speaks will play from 5-7 p.m. A brief ceremony recognizing the new name of the Courthouse Plaza is set for 4:30 p.m.
A press area with a multbox will be available for media seeking to capture sound from the stage during the activities.
Other activities throughout the Bicentennial Block Party include 35 bison in the newly renovated courtyard, a giant slide, a rock-climbing wall, bags and haystack games, a petting zoo, a stilt walker, photo booths, and a variety of foods and beverages from Peoria County vendors.
All activities are free to the public. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Peoria County's Bicentennial Committee has been instrumental in making our year-long celebration a success: Peoria County Farm Bureau, Peoria Historical Society, Woodruff Career and Technical Center, Peoria Public Library, Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Peoria Riverfront Museum, Limestone Township, Peoria Park District, and the West Central IL Building and Construction Trades Council.
