Costa Rica continues to produce genetically engineered cotton for seed reproduction and exports and pink pineapples for export. The Ministry of Agriculture is drafting regulations on the use of genetically engineered products for human and animal consumption and is also working on a new regulation on biosafety audits. The National Technical Biosafety Commission met regularly throughout 2025 and approved three new cotton events requested by cotton seed exporters. The Commission is also evaluating field trial requests for bananas resistant to black sigatoka.
