Tempe This Week Sept. 22, 2025


Several Tempe City Council Subcommittees take place this month. These groups allow Tempe City Councilmembers to begin to develop policies and share information that aligns with the City's strategic priorities and enhances the quality of life for our community.

The Age Friendly Tempe Subcommittee, chaired by Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid, meets tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 4 p.m. at Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave. The purpose of this subcommittee is to develop and implement the Age-Friendly Tempe 2026-2031 Action Plan to enhance livability for all ages. Councilmembers Randy Keating and Nikki Amberg serve on this committee.

The Council Subcommittee on Drink Spiking Education and Prevention, chaired by Councilmember Randy Keating, will take place this Friday, Sept. 26 at noon. This subcommittee explores addressing the issue of drink spiking in bars, restaurants and nightlife environments, aiming to foster safer drinking environments and more. Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid and Councilmember Berdetta Hodge also serve on this committee.

The Council Subcommittee on Animal Welfare & Cruelty, chaired by Councilmember Berdetta Hodge, will look for ways to strengthen polices, partnerships, and public education efforts to ensure the well-being of animals. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at Tempe City Hall. Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid and Councilmember Jennifer Adams also serve on this committee.
