PITUFFIK SPACE BASE, GREENLAND - U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Co-Chair of the Senate Arctic Caucus, led a bipartisan, all-women congressional delegation to Pituffik Space Base in Greenland to examine U.S. military operations and strategic capabilities in the Arctic and meet with deployed servicemembers. The delegation included U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Katie Britt (R-AL) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS).

During the visit, the Senators met with U.S. military leadership and received briefings on missile warning systems, space operations, Arctic domain awareness and the growing strategic importance of the High North. The delegation toured key facilities, including the 12th Space Warning Squadron and the Polar Orbiting Geophysical Observatory, and discussed U.S.-Canada cooperation on Arctic defense and aerospace monitoring.

The Senators also examined critical Arctic infrastructure, including the northernmost deepwater port in the world, and discussed the logistical challenges associated with operating in extreme Arctic conditions. Throughout the engagements, the delegation emphasized the importance of sustained U.S. investment in Arctic readiness, military infrastructure and allied coordination as Russia and China expand their activities in the region.

Across the meetings, the Senators reaffirmed bipartisan congressional support for maintaining a strong U.S. presence in the Arctic and deepening our partnership with Greenland and Denmark on a basis of mutual respect with cooperation on key priorities.
