ATLANTA-Georgia State University has appointed Candace R. Kuby as dean of the College of Education & Human Development, effective Aug. 1. Her appointment represents a meaningful transition for the college and an opportunity to advance its next phase of growth and impact.
A collaborative and community-engaged leader, she currently serves as associate provost for faculty affairs at the University of Missouri and is a professor in the Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum.
Kuby has demonstrated a strong record of academic leadership, faculty development and scholarly achievement. Her leadership experience is vast and includes service as coordinator of the Early Childhood Education program, inaugural director of qualitative inquiry and chair of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum.
At Georgia State, Kuby will guide efforts within the College of Education & Human Development to advance interdisciplinary collaboration, expand research impact and strengthen connections with schools, communities and organizations throughout the region. She will also provide leadership in faculty and staff development.

"Her vision and breadth of experience position her well to guide the college in this next phase of opportunity."

Kuby also brings significant experience in stewardship and resource development that will support the college's continued growth. Her experience aligning resources with strategic goals, coupled with her collaborative approach to building external partnerships, positions her well to help advance the college's financial strength and support new opportunities for investment in its mission.
Kuby earned a doctorate in literacy, culture, and language education from Indiana University. She holds a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before entering higher education, she taught in preschool and elementary settings in Japan, Alabama and Indiana, experience that has informed her scholarship and leadership in educator preparation.
