Senator Collins Applauds Maine and New England Small Business Manufacturer of the Year

BREWER, ME - U.S. Senator Susan Collins today applauded Compotech, based in Brewer, and its President, Paul Melrose, for winning the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Maine and New England Small Business Manufacturer of the Year award.

Compotech is a defense technology company, strengthening U.S. military capabilities through smart manufacturing, composites, and advanced engineering. By leveraging data and technology, Compotech creates quality jobs in Maine, which showcases a higher caliber skill set and paves the way for future employment opportunities.

"Congratulations to Paul and the entire Compotech team on this significant recognition," said Senator Collins. "I'm proud to have supported Compotech by securing federal funding for the development of next generation technology to protect our servicemembers. I will continue working to support businesses like Compotech who contribute to our national security and small business owners like Paul who add so much to our communities."

"We are incredibly grateful for Senator Collins' continued support and advocacy for Compotech and Maine's small business community. Her commitment to securing federal funding for next-generation defense technology has been instrumental in allowing us to grow right here in Brewer and continue developing products that protect the men and women who serve our country. It's an honor to work alongside leaders who believe in what Maine manufacturers can accomplish," said Paul Melrose.

In Fiscal Year 2026, Senator Collins secured $17 million for containerized secure units to support highly mobile expeditionary operations for the Marine Corps, $10 million for the procurement of an expeditionary shelter protection system (ESPS), $8 million to advance artificial intelligence-enabled munitions inspection technology using CT scanning, and $5 million to continue the development, testing, and user evaluations of Expandable Panelized and Collapsible Shelters (E-PACS), all of which are manufactured by Compotech.

Senator Collins also congratulated Maine's other SBA annual Small Business Award winners this week, including Spud Speedway in Caribou, Casco Bay Ambulance Service in Portland, Fundamental Foot Care in Hampden, Rick's Redemption in Presque Isle, Erik Francis of Francis Fisheries, and Ghent Holdsworth II of Aroostook County Savings & Loan.
