City of Reno Appoints Acting Chief Corey Solferino to Serve as Reno’s Next Chief of Police

Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant has appointed Reno Police Department's (RPD) Acting Chief Corey Solferino to serve as the department's next Chief of Police.

In early March 2026, the City of Reno and Washoe County entered into an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) designating Solferino as Acting Chief of Police to provide temporary leadership support to the Reno Police Department. Since stepping into the role, Solferino has led the department through a critical transition period while maintaining continuity in operations, strengthening internal leadership, and supporting the department's ongoing commitment to public safety.

At the upcoming Reno City Council meeting on May 20, 2026, City Manager Bryant will recommend that Council ratify and confirm Solferino's appointment as Reno's next Chief of Police. If approved, Solferino will be sworn in following the meeting.

"Over the past nine weeks, Acting Chief Solferino has demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a deep commitment to the Reno Police Department employees during a period of transition," said Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant "His leadership has helped ensure the department remains focused on its mission of protecting and serving our community, and I am confident he will continue to guide the department forward with accountability, collaboration, and dedication to public safety."

Solferino, who has been serving as Acting Chief of Police, brings more than two decades of law enforcement leadership and public safety experience to the role. His appointment reflects a continued commitment to strengthening trust, supporting employees, and ensuring professional, accountable, and responsive police services for the Reno community.

"I'm honored by the opportunity to serve as Reno's next Chief of Police," said Acting Chief Corey Solferino. "Over the past several weeks, I've had the privilege of working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Reno Police Department and engaging with members of our community. I am committed to continuing the work of strengthening trust, supporting our employees, and ensuring this department remains focused on providing professional, accountable, and responsive public safety services to the residents of Reno."
