The 2026 GW Giving Day was the largest in the university's history.

The George Washington University Giving Day 2026 brought together thousands of members of the GW community from around the world, raising more than $2 million in just over 24 hours. It was GW's largest Giving Day yet.

More than 3,800 donors contributed to this year's effort, reflecting the continued strength and generosity of the GW network.

The annual effort supports priorities across GW-from scholarships and student support to academic programs and research.

"Giving Day is a powerful reminder of what makes GW so special: our community's shared commitment to the people and programs that shape this university," said Vice President for Advancement David L. Unruh. "That generosity strengthens our ability to support students, invest in faculty, and deliver on the priorities that guide GW's future."

Support for GW spanned the globe, with the farthest gift coming from Singapore. Closer to home, Virginia led all states in the number of donations, underscoring the university's strong regional ties.

Across campuses and online, supporters participated in challenges, shared stories and rallied behind causes that matter most to them. The day's success reflected not only financial contributions but also the collective energy and engagement of the GW community.

"I am truly floored by the overwhelming generosity of our donors and the incredible dedication of the students, faculty, staff and advocates who brought this day to life across our campuses and around the world," said Daniel Burgner, assistant vice president of annual giving. "Seeing our entire community unite for Giving Day makes the impact of our collective philanthropy and service so clear."

For many students, Giving Day offers a moment to reflect on the impact of philanthropy on their own experiences and to connect with a broader network of support.

"Giving Day matters because it ripples across generations. It doesn't just fund education; it builds the communities that shape who students become," said Aliza Nazir, a student in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development.

Her sister, Ariana Nazir, a student in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized how the day highlights the connections that define the GW experience.

"Giving Day allows me to connect with the broader GW community, from our alumni and staff to fellow students, and reflect on our shared pride in all that this institution makes possible," she said. "For me, it's a day for gratitude and appreciating how our community comes together to invest in students."

Since its launch in 2021, Giving Day has grown into a signature university tradition, demonstrating how contributions of all sizes create meaningful opportunities for students and strengthen GW's mission.
