The meeting underscored the shared commitment of UNESCO and Samoa to strengthening cooperation across education, culture and science, in support of Samoa's national development priorities and the broader Pacific regional agenda.
Discussions focused on advancing cooperation across UNESCO's core mandates, including quality education for all, the safeguarding of cultural heritage, the promotion of scientific research and innovation, and the empowerment of young people and communities to address global challenges.
Mr. Alam expressed UNESCO's sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Samoa for their continued support, particularly for hosting the UNESCO Regional Office for the Pacific States in Apia. Established in September 1984, the office has served as the centre for UNESCO's engagement across 17 Pacific Island countries for more than four decades, supporting regional cooperation and capacity development.
The meeting also recalled key milestones in Samoa's relationship with UNESCO. Samoa became a Member State of UNESCO on 3 April 1981 and will mark 45 years of membership in 2026, reflecting the country's sustained commitment to UNESCO's values of peace and sustainable development.
