LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today issued the following statement following today's Supreme Court ruling regarding birthright citizenship:

"This decision is a blow against the Administration's ongoing campaign to divide our country and instill fear in our immigrant communities.

"For more than 150 years, children born in the United States have been recognized as American citizens. Today, that promise endures.

"Los Angeles has always been a city of hope, a place where people from every corner of the world come to build a better life for their families. Those dreams have shaped our neighborhoods, strengthened our economy, and made Los Angeles the city we love today.

"To every parent worried about their child's future, and to every young person wondering where they belong, hear this: you belong in Los Angeles. Your dreams are part of our future, and your family is part of our story. I will always make sure Los Angeles is a sanctuary of safety and opportunity for everyone.

"I am proud to stand with and support the many Los Angeles organizations that work with our community to shape and strengthen immigrant communities across the city and beyond.

"We see you. We care about you. And we will continue standing with you."
