UNM Chicana/o Studies hosts Sabor y Sonido: A CCS Backyard Fiesta

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations continue at The University of New Mexico with Sabor y Sonido: A CCS Backyard Fiesta, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1829 Sigma Chi NE.

Hosted by UNM's Department of Chicana/o Studies in partnership with New Mexico Arte por Vida, the free event will feature green chile burgers, games, music and dancing. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to join.

"The goal of this event is to foster unity between the UNM community and the broader Albuquerque community," said Antoinette Rael, department administrator for the UNM Department of Chicana/o Studies. "Encouraging them to recognize and celebrate their diverse histories, cultures, and traditions through elements like food, music, and other cultural aspects."

The fiesta is part of the "NM Arte Por Vida Series," which aims to preserve and share New Mexican art forms while highlighting stories of Hispana/o people from their own perspectives. Organizers say the series celebrates creativity, history and community, helping future generations develop pride in their cultural heritage.
