Governor Ayotte, State Leaders Remind Granite Staters to Stay Safe over Labor Day Weekend

CONCORD, NH - As Labor Day Weekend approaches, Governor Kelly Ayotte and state leaders are reminding Granite Staters to drive safe, boat responsibly, and follow guidance from lifeguards while swimming as they enjoy the holiday.

"Whether you're hitting the beach, cruising the lake, or taking a road trip, don't forget to look out for yourself, your loved ones, and your fellow Granite Staters and visitors," said Governor Ayotte. "Thank you to all of our first responders, beach lifeguards, and emergency personnel who will be working around the clock to help everyone have a fun and safe Labor Day Weekend."

"This Labor Day weekend, I urge everyone in the Granite State to make safety a top priority - whether heading to the beach, the mountains, or enjoying time in their home community," added New Hampshire Department of Safety Commissioner Robert L. Quinn. "Our public safety teams - including the State Police, county and local law enforcement - will be out in full force with additional patrols across the state, working tirelessly to prevent crashes, enforce traffic laws, and respond to emergencies. We ask all residents and visitors to do their part: drive sober, obey speed limits, and stay alert. Let's make this a safe and enjoyable holiday for all."

"As we head into the busy Labor Day weekend on New Hampshire's waters, remember that safety comes first," said Lt. Irwin Malilay, Commander of New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol. "Always wear your life jacket, check the weather, and never boat under the influence. Carry your safety gear, follow local laws, and be mindful of swimmers and other boaters. Let's keep this holiday safe and enjoyable for everyone-have a great weekend out there!"

"Make this Labor Day weekend an enjoyable and safe one for you and your family by being prepared," added Robert Buxton, Director of the New Hampshire Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. "Stay informed of changing weather conditions by signing up for local alerts and make sure your emergency kit is stocked, especially if you plan to travel. Your kit should include important documents and contact information along with supplies."

"The New Hampshire State Beach Patrol - Ocean Lifeguards and New Hampshire State Parks want to ensure a safe Labor Day weekend when visiting our New Hampshire Seacoast beaches," concluded Patrick Murphy, Chief of New Hampshire State Beach Patrol. "We are advising the public to visit beaches where there are ocean lifeguards on duty. When at the beach, check in with lifeguards for current water safety recommendations. It's important to know that rip currents can occur at any time and if you are caught in one, don't attempt to swim directly back to shore. Stay calm and swim parallel to shore, but most importantly, always swim near a lifeguard."
