Keys to Success Town Hall Program Continues With 2 Landlord Events

July 29, 2026 3:20 PM

The DC Housing Authority's (DCHA) Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) staff hosted two "The Keys to Success as a DCHA Partner" in-person events on May 30 and June 17 attended by nearly 400 current and prospective landlords.

Participants for both events gathered in the Panorama Room to listen to HCVP staff give presentations on a variety of program aspects, including:

  • Voucher issuance, inspections, leasing, recertification and special programs
  • Mediation of landlord-tenant issues
  • The rent reasonableness process
  • An overview of the Owner Portal

The participants had the opportunity to ask HCVP staff questions as a group during presentations and in one-on-one encounters. DCHA also gave out swag featuring the agency logo including keychains, drink koozies, and more.

At the June 17 event, staff from AffordableHousing.com, DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) and DC Department of Buildings (DOB) reviewed a range of topics.

HCVP, formally known as Section 8, is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered locally by DCHA.

HCVP provides rental assistance to eligible families so that they can obtain affordable housing in the private rental market. HCVP participants pay a portion of their unit's rent based on a percentage of their household's annual adjusted gross income. On average, HCVP participants' rent is about 30% of their household's income. The remaining amount is paid by DCHA directly to the property owner. DCHA's payment is called the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP).

Property owners who are interested in becoming landlords for DCHA can complete a form at https://www.dchousing.org/BecomeLandlord.
