UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Cowboy State Daily and the Laramie Boomerang covered UW President Shane Reeves' "State of the University" address last week.

The Casper Star-Tribune covered UW's selection of BoodleBox as its institutional artificial intelligence platform.

UW Professor Bart Geerts told ABC's Good Morning America that silver iodide used in cloud seeding doesn't have a measurable impact on air quality or human health. His comments were included in a piece on the potential for cloud seeding with drones to address drought conditions in the West.

In a San Francisco Standard article exploring the possibility of using cloud seeding to produce water for data centers, Geerts notes that existing cloud-seeding projects produce only small amounts of rain.

The inaugural Maternal Health Summit hosted by UW's Rural Health Institute was covered by WyoFile and Wyoming Public Media. The event drew obstetricians, healthcare lobbyists, policymakers and others for two days of workshops and presentations.

Retired UW Professor Jim King told WyoFile that a single policy generally doesn't have an extreme, negative effect on presidential approval ratings. His observations were included in an article about President Donald Trump's recent criticism of data center opponents and decisions on beef imports, which are putting him at odds with many of his Wyoming supporters, potentially risking his favorability in the Equality State.

King also is quoted in a WyoFile article exploring the possibility of a third-party candidate winning Wyoming's governorship. He notes that no third-party or independent candidate has won a statewide office.

UW Associate Professor Ryan Williamson is quoted in Wyoming Tribune Eagle article about Constitution Party gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Bextel's "First 100 Days" plan. Williamson said such plans are often overambitious but can draw attention to the candidates. He also stressed the importance of defining oneself when running as a third-party candidate.

UW's King Air research aircraft played a key role in a study about ozone in Utah's Salt Lake Valley. The project was highlighted in a Laramie Boomerang article.

The Boomerang also published UW's release about a $14.8 million National Science Foundation grant to operate the King Air research aircraft.

The new UW-produced documentary, "What Bison See," continues to receive attention, most recently from Wyoming News Now.

The Laramie Boomerang picked up UW's release about the upcoming Wyoming Blockchain Stampede.

UW Extension is partnering with Weston County's emergency management office to organize a livestock emergency response team, according to a Newcastle News Letter Journal article in the Buffalo Bulletin. The team is designed to connect livestock owners with trailers, equipment, facilities and other assistance during wildfires and other disasters.
