Dr. Andrew Lang Assumes Role to Develop the Next Generation of Future Innovators

Tulsa, Oklahoma, April 22, 2026-Oral Roberts University (ORU) announced the appointment of Dr. Andrew Lang as Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. Lang has served on the ORU faculty since 1998, where he has invested nearly three decades in teaching, research, and mentoring students.

With a distinguished academic and scholarly background, Lang studied at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. For his work, he has been recognized by The White House, Google, Cambridge University, and The DaVinci Institute, where he is a fellow. Throughout his career at ORU, he has frequently been honored for excellence in both teaching and scholarship, including twice being recognized as Scholar of the Year, as well as receiving the Outstanding Honors Program Faculty Member of the Year award and the Computing & Mathematics Department Faculty Member of the Year award.

"ORU's College of Science and Engineering has a significant role in shaping students who are called to serve the world through discovery, innovation, and Christ-centered leadership," said ORU President Dr. William M. Wilson. "Dr. Andrew Lang's appointment marks an important step forward for this College. His academic excellence, faithful service, and enduring commitment to the University's mission have distinguished him as a respected scholar, educator, and mentor. I believe Dr. Lang is the right leader to help steward the future of this college, inspiring students to pursue knowledge, truth, and purpose as they prepare to make a meaningful impact on the world."

A frequent publisher in scientific journals, Lang is an advocate for Open Science and other Open Knowledge Initiatives. He also leads a very active undergraduate research program that has resulted in several students serving as co-authors on peer-reviewed journal articles. Lang's research and expertise include mathematics, physics, and computer science. In addition, he co-teaches Science and the Imagination, an interdisciplinary honors course exploring the relationship between science and science fiction.

ORU Provost Dr. Kathaleen Reid-Martinez affirmed Lang's appointment, saying, "Dr. Andrew Lang exemplifies the kind of academic leadership that strengthens both our faculty and our students. His long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching, interdisciplinary learning, and undergraduate research has made a lasting impact at ORU. I look forward to working with him as he leads the College of Science and Engineering into its next chapter."

Lang shared his gratitude for this new role, "It is a profound honor to step into the role of Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. At ORU, education concerns more than the mind; it is the formation of the whole person, prepared for a life of purpose. In a world increasingly shaped by science, engineering, and emerging technologies, there is a growing need for men and women whose knowledge is grounded in wisdom, whose lives are marked by integrity, and whose work is led by the Spirit. I am grateful to serve alongside a community deeply committed to that calling."

ORU's College of Science and Engineering is committed to academic excellence through rigorous instruction, innovative research, and Christ-centered formation. With programs designed to prepare students for meaningful impact in science, mathematics, technology, and engineering, the College equips graduates to lead with skill, integrity, and purpose in a rapidly changing world.
