Somali maritime stakeholders participate in CRIMARIO MARCO³ training

Last week, EUCAP Somalia facilitated the MARCO³ training, provided by CRIMARIO.

25 participants, representing a wide range of Somali maritime stakeholders (including the Somali Navy and Coast Guard, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, the Somali Police Force - Department of Coast Guard, and the Galmudug State Authorities), actively took part in the training.

This diverse group fostered rich discussion and cross-agency exchange, strengthening mutual understanding and collaboration across Somalia's maritime security and governance landscape. Practical sessions demonstrated how the Indo-Pacific and Latin America Information Sharing Platform (IORIS) supports effective information sharing, joint situational awareness, and coordinated operational responses.

The MARCO³ training provided by CRIMARIO is designed to equip junior operators and analysts with the skills needed to effectively support managers by strengthening cooperation and coordination capacities. The training focuses on enhanced communication, the application of established procedures, and information analysis to support operations at sea, in littoral zones, and in inland waters. It also addresses a broad range of maritime safety and security challenges, including sustainable fisheries.

CRIMARIO is an EU-funded maritime capacity building initiative. Utilising the integrated approach EUCAP Somalia has many theoretical and practical trainings over the years to the benefit of various Somali stakeholders.
