WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration in the Temporary Protected Status cases:
"Today, the Supreme Court gave the Trump administration a dangerous green light to strip legal protections from people who cannot safely return home.
"TPS holders followed the rules. They registered with the government, passed background checks, renewed their status, worked legally, paid taxes, and raised their families here.
"Their reward should not be a deportation notice.
"This decision could place TPS holders from countries around the world at risk and weaken the ability of courts to hold the government accountable.
"TPS holders are caregivers, workers, parents, and neighbors. Removing them would harm families, employers, seniors, and entire communities.
"Congress cannot sit by and watch. We must pass the American Dream and Promise Act and provide eligible TPS holders with permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship."
