Mark Drumbl, Class of 1975 Alumni Professor of Law and director of the Transnational Law Institute at Washington and Lee University School of Law, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the International Criminal Law Review. His appointment was effective on September 1, 2025.
The International Criminal Law Review, based in the Netherlands, is well into its third decade of publication. It is a widely respected venue for cutting-edge scholarship on international criminal justice, atrocity law, penal law, and transitional justice.
"It is a peer-reviewed journal with global reach, and has benefitted from stellar leadership in the past," said Drumbl, who is widely published in international criminal law, with several books and edited collections, and is very excited about the future growth of the Review.
"This is a wonderful time to consider submitting to this journal in particular in light of its mission that welcomes interdisciplinary and innovative work along with doctrinal contributions," he said.
Under Drumbl's leadership, the Review will broaden its scope and include topics that transcend doctrine: exploring institutional practices, procedural dynamics, overlooked histories, narrative and literary approaches, and the interplay of diverse legal traditions. It will also welcome newer voices onto its Board of Editors.
Select W&L students will also have the opportunity to participate in the editing and finalization of submissions. For additional information on the International Criminal Law Review, along with guidelines about submissions and the full mandate of the journal, visit this link.
