WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is supporting legislationthat would ban certain semi-automatic and high-capacity gun magazines to help combat the rise in political violence and tackle gun violence that kills thousands of Americans every year.
"Each year, thousands of families find themselves sitting around the dinner table with the empty chair from a loved one lost too soon to gun violence," said Congressman Sorensen. "We must take steps to protect our communities and our loved ones from gun violence. Military-style assault weapons, capable of killing dozens of people in minutes, do not belong on our streets. Getting them out of our communities will help save lives amid a rise in political violence and our country's gun violence epidemic."
The billwould also ban guns that have military features, like pistol grips and folding stocks, and ban magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. It is supported by Everytown for Gun Safety, Brady: United Against Gun Violence, Giffords, and Newtown Action Alliance.
