Hoboken Police Department swears in six new Police Officers

The City of Hoboken swore six new police officers into the Hoboken Police Department during a ceremony at City Hall this afternoon.

Mayor Emily B. Jabbour, Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, and Police Chief Steven Aguiar, joined County Commissioner Anthony Romano, City Councilwoman Diane Imus, family, fellow police officers, and community members to honor, and welcome, Jose M. Silverio Jr., George L. Martinez Jr., Nicholas M. Rodriguez, Jarred A. Rosso, Tre N. Smith, and Autumn Thorpe, as they took the oath of office.

"Taking this oath reflects integrity, empathy, and a willingness to step forward, when many others would not," said Mayor Jabbour. "On behalf of the City of Hoboken, I congratulate these six officers, thank them for their promise to protect our community, and extend my gratitude to their families, for their support, encouragement, and own sacrifices.

"We are proud to welcome these officers to the Hoboken Police Department and look forward to supporting them throughout their careers and watching them thrive as they serve our City," said Public Safety Director Ferrante. "I appreciate their commitment in coming to the Hoboken PD, to serve and protect our residents and visitors."

"When taking an oath to become a Hoboken police officer, it is more than a ceremony; it is a commitment to the community, and to the values of the department," said Chief Aguiar. "I wish each one of them success as they begin this exciting chapter and remind them all to wear the badge with pride and respect."

The newest recruits graduated from the Hudson County Police Academy yesterday and will begin field training immediately. The six new officers bring Hoboken's Police Department to 147 members.
