Tucson, AZ - Congressman Juan Ciscomani and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner toured Gospel Rescue Mission in Tucson today to see firsthand how local partnerships are helping individuals experiencing homelessness find stability, opportunity, and a path forward.
"Everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life, find a place to call home, and pursue their own version of the American Dream. Gospel Rescue Mission is making a real difference right here in Southern Arizona by meeting people where they are and helping them build a path toward a brighter future. I'm grateful to Secretary Turner for joining me to highlight the incredible work happening in our community and bring Southern Arizona's efforts to the national conversation. Together, we can connect local solutions with federal resources to help more Arizonans get back on their feet," said Congressman Ciscomani.
At the heart of Gospel Rescue Mission's work is the Center of Opportunity, which brings together housing, recovery services, workforce development, healthcare access, and spiritual support under one roof. Through more than 50 community partnerships with nonprofits, churches, healthcare providers, educational institutions, employers, and social-service agencies, the mission helps individuals address the root causes of homelessness and work toward long-term stability.
"It's great to be back in Arizona with my friend Congressman Juan Ciscomani. Today, we toured the Gospel Rescue Mission, a faith-based organization leading the way and transforming lives from homelessness to wholeness. It's an honor to highlight their incredible results-driven work and partner with Congressman Ciscomani who is delivering for Arizona families," said Secretary Scott Turner.
During the tour, Secretary Turner highlighted HUD's mission to help Americans find stability and opportunity, including through the Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative. The program helps young adults transitioning out of foster care access housing assistance and supportive services to prevent homelessness. Turner has supported a $1.8 million investment in the initiative to assist more than 100 young Americans aging out of foster care.
Expanding access to housing also requires increasing the supply of homes and addressing the barriers that drive up costs. Ciscomani has supported the bipartisan FAST Housing Act to accelerate housing construction by reducing regulatory barriers and introduced the bipartisan CONSTRUCTS Act to address workforce shortages in residential construction. Together, these efforts reflect the importance of pairing immediate support for vulnerable populations with long-term solutions that make housing more accessible and affordable.
That same commitment to lasting solutions is reflected in Gospel Rescue Mission's work. Through its holistic, faith-based approach and more than 50 community partnerships, the organization helps individuals move beyond crisis toward stability, independence, and a fresh start. The visit highlighted how federal initiatives, local organizations, and community partnerships can work together to address homelessness and expand housing opportunities across Southern Arizona.
