Lopes Road Update

In March 2023, powerful winter storms caused a landslide along Lopes Road, just south of Cordelia, severely damaging the roadway and two critical waterlines-Fairfield's 30-inch potable waterline and Benicia's 36-inch raw waterline. Since then, this section of Lopes Road has remained closed as the City worked through the complex process of securing federal emergency funding.

The City received encouraging news from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), who has approved the City's Disaster Assistance request for Emergency Relief. This funding will support the full reconstruction of the roadway and slope stabilization-work that was previously ineligible for FEMA assistance.

Meanwhile, the FEMA-eligible portion of the project, which includes rebuilding the damaged water utilities, is in the final stages of review. We anticipate full project funding will be secured by the end of 2025.

Final design plans and specifications are expected to be completed within the same timeframe, with construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2026.
