Luján Statement on Firing of Pam Bondi

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in response to the firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi:

"As Attorney General, Pam Bondi failed the American people. She refused to uphold the rule of law, maintain DOJ's independence from political influence, and provide transparency and justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein's heinous crimes. Her firing is deserved and overdue. Good riddance.

"The American people deserve an Attorney General who will uphold the rule of law, defend the Constitution, and ensure the DOJ complies in releasing the full Epstein Files. Unfortunately, this almost certainly won't happen under President Trump and a Republican Congress that takes his orders."

Senator Luján voted against the confirmation of Pam Bondi.

Senator Luján has demanded that Pam Bondi provide transparency and accountability regarding the Epstein Files. In March, Senator Luján called for an independent audit and report to Congress about the Department of Justice's failed practices in redacting information of the public release of the Epstein Files. In December, Senator Luján called on Pam Bondi to brief Congress on the Department of Justice's compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, law passed by Senator Luján to publicly release all files related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
