HONOLULU, Sept. 9, 2026 - Hawaiian Electric has restored power to nearly all the of affected Oahu customers impacted by Hurricane Lowell who can be safely connected to the grid. Restoration plans are in place for the remaining customers who are still without power. With support from Southern California Edison crews through the Western Region Mutual Assistance Group, all remaining customers in Wood Valley on Hawaii Island got electricity back yesterday.

With restoration work following Hurricanes Lowell and Lala mostly complete on Oahu and Hawaii Island, both Hawaiian Electric and SCE are mobilizing to support Kauai Island Utility Cooperative with recovery efforts.

The first Hawaiian Electric team will arrive on Kauai tomorrow to coordinate with KIUC and assess what personnel, supplies and equipment are needed. Trucks and other equipment are scheduled to arrive by barge on Friday. The companies are also collaborating to reposition SCE resources from Hawaii Island and welcome new personnel from California to Kauai. SCE personnel on Hawaii Island will be relieved of storm response efforts and will return to California tomorrow.

KIUC aided Hawaiian Electric on Hawaiʻi Island following the aftermath of Tropical Storm Iselle in 2014. The last time Hawaiian Electric provided large-scale assistance to Kauaʻi was after Hurricane Iniki in 1992, which devastated the island's electric grid.
