Western Libraries Subscription Review Spring Update

Western Libraries Subscription Review Spring Update

May 20, 2026

Western Libraries has finalized the outcomes of the 2025-26 subscription review process. These changes - most of which will take effect on January 1, 2027 - are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that the university's subscriptions portfolio remains dynamic and relevant while still achieving the necessary target of $87,000 in subscription reductions.

In winter quarter, we shared a list of existing subscriptions under review and new subscriptions requested by members of the university community. Based on the feedback we received, we are cancelling a mix of individual journals, databases, and a small journal package, and adding one new subscription to achieve our target of $87,000 in cancellations. A list of the impacted titles can be found on the Subscription Review website.

Most of the cancelled subscriptions are accessible or indexed through other sources like EBSCOhost or JSTOR or can be acquired through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

If you have any questions about the titles, library subscriptions, or the subscription review process, please reach out to the Libraries' Subject Teams or contact the Libraries' Collection Services division. Western students, faculty, and staff can also continue to submit new subscription requests for next year's review via our New Subscription Request Form.

Thank you for your engagement with the subscription review process!
