Italian Foreign Ministry preparing new medical evacuation from Gaza. Among the children is little Tuleen, a newborn suffering from a severe congenital malformation

In recent days, the Italian Foreign Ministry received several urgent appeals regarding highly delicate cases of Palestinian minors in Gaza requiring life-saving treatment. Requests for their evacuation have already been submitted to the Israeli authorities as a matter of urgency. Among these cases is Tuleen, a Palestinian newborn affected by a severe congenital malformation known as sacrococcygeal teratoma.

As with other patients, the Italian Foreign Ministry is working in close coordination with the Ministry of Defence and Civil Protection to carry out this new medical evacuation at the earliest possible date. For each patient, transfer to the most suitable hospital facility is being assessed, thanks also to the readiness of Italian Regions and hospitals that have already offered to provide treatment for minors arriving in our country.

This medical evacuation, the fifteenth since the outbreak of the crisis, could take place as early as the beginning of next week. In particular, little Tuleen is expected to be transferred to a hospital in Piedmont. To date, 181 children from Gaza have received treatment in Italian hospitals, thanks to the commitment of 20 healthcare facilities across the country that have made themselves available.
