City Offices Closed for Juneteenth Holiday

Des Moines, Iowa - Thursday, June 18, 2026 - In observance of the Juneteenth Federal and collectively bargained holiday, most City of Des Moines offices and buildings will be closed on Friday, June 19.

There will be no delay in collection of garbage, recycling or yard waste. For a full schedule of holiday waste collection impacts, visit DSM.city/HolidaySchedule.

All Des Moines Public Library branches will be closed on Friday, June 19 and resume regular hours on Saturday, June 20.

The City of Des Moines began to observe Juneteenth as a holiday for all City staff beginning in 2021, and when Juneteenth was recognized with a federal holiday designation.

City buildings will reopen on Monday, June 22 with regular hours.
