ICYMI: Christine Drazan’s Conflicts of Interest and Self-Dealing Keep Stacking Up

Portland, OR - Today, American Journal News published a shocking new report revealing that Christine Drazan failed to report possible conflicts of interest, repeatedly voting in favor of large landlords without disclosing that her husband is an attorney who specializes in lease disputes on behalf of Oregon landlords.

Christine Drazan has demonstrated a clear pattern of voting to benefit large landlords and property management companies. Additionally, the story points out a consistent failure to disclose potential conflicts of interest surrounding her husband's employment as a real estate attorney and partner with the law firm Dunn Carney. Those votes have included:

• Opposing HB 3521, which requires landlords to compensate potential tenants if the landlord backs out of an agreement to rent a dwelling after accepting a deposit.
• Opposing HB 3378, which requires landlords to provide a way of accessing a housing unit other than through smartphones or similar devices.
• Opposing SB 973, which requires a landlord of publicly supported housing to provide all applicants and new tenants notice of when the affordability restrictions may be terminated.
• Opposing SB 608, which prohibits no-cause evictions for tenants that have lived in a unit for at least 12 months.

This report comes just one month after a story by the Oregon Capital Chronicle highlighted how Drazan paid herself nearly $100,000 by charging her dark-money group through a for-profit consulting firm that she owns.

"It's clear that - just like Donald Trump - Christine Drazan is committed to using her elected position to enrich herself and her family," said Democratic Party of Oregon Executive Director Candy Emmons. "While she postures on the housing crisis, she's voted again and again to protect the landlords her own husband represents. Oregonians deserve a leader who will fight for their interests, not make a quick buck at their expense. We can't allow Drazan to bring Donald Trump's style of shameless corruption to Oregon."

• In April 2025, Drazan voted against HB 3521, which requires landlords to compensate potential tenants if the landlord backs out of an agreement to rent a dwelling after accepting a deposit. The bill passed with only Democratic votes and was signed into law by Gov. Tina Kotek.
• A month earlier, Drazan opposed HB 3378, which requires landlords to provide a way of accessing a housing unit other than through smartphones or similar devices. The bill passed with bipartisan support and was also signed into law by Kotek.
• In May 2025, Drazan was one of only nine legislators to vote against SB 973. Oregon landlords who receive public funding are generally required to offer some or all units at a cost affordable to people earning below a certain income level. The law requires landlords to notify applicants and tenants when those requirements may end.
• Drazan also opposed SB 608 in 2019, which prohibits landlords from terminating a month-to-month lease without cause after a tenant has lived in a unit for more than 12 months.
• Drazan's husband, Dan Drazan, is an attorney specializing in real estate and commercial lease disputes with the law firm Dunn Carney. Drazan has never filed a conflict of interest statement in relation to her husband's work.
