Clarkson University Launches New Healthcare Business Major

November 5, 2025

Healthcare jobs are growing fast, with demand for medical and health services managers projected to rise 23 percent from 2024 to 2034. To meet that need, Clarkson University is introducing a new Healthcare Business major beginning in Fall 2025.

The program is for students who want to pair an interest in healthcare with business training. It equips them with the skills to work in a range of careers in the healthcare industry, including hospital administration, market research, pharmaceutical sales, or quality assurance. Students will study business fundamentals like finance, marketing and management while also learning how healthcare systems operate.

"This major builds bridges between science, patient care and business," said Program Director David Schelly. "It's a strong option for students who want to pair clinical knowledge with business training. It is also ideal for preparing students for an MBA program or for stepping into a healthcare management role right after graduation."

The Healthcare Business major is part of the Lewis School of Health and Life Sciences' ecosystem of programs, which now includes patient care, business and scientific discovery. It also connects to Clarkson's graduate programs, including clinical degrees and the MBA in Healthcare Management and MS in Healthcare Data Analytics.

The program is modeled after Clarkson's successful Engineering & Management program, which has produced many high-level executives. By offering the same balance of business and industry knowledge, Healthcare Business majors will be ready to lead in one of the fastest-growing sectors.

Clarkson's new Healthcare Business major prepares students to step directly into high-growth careers across the healthcare sector, with strong earning potential and opportunities for advancement right after graduation. The program builds a solid foundation in healthcare administration and management, equipping graduates with the skills employers need in this fast-growing field.

Students interested in further education can also earn up to 10 graduate credits toward Clarkson's Healthcare Management MBA, gaining a valuable head start on advanced study. With more than 62,000 healthcare management positions projected to open each year, the program offers both immediate career readiness and flexibility for future growth.
