State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić paid an official visit to the United States on Wednesday, 15 July 2026. During his visit to Washington, D.C., he met at the U.S. Department of State with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Daniel J. Lawton.
The discussions focused on further strengthening the alliance between Croatia and the United States, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and advancing joint efforts to strengthen stability and energy resilience in Southeast Europe.
State Secretary Lucić underlined that Croatia, as a committed and reliable Euro-Atlantic partner, continues to contribute to stability and security in Southeast Europe. Particular attention was given to Croatia's strategic role in strengthening regional energy security. Through investments, notably the expansion of the capacity of the LNG terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia has further reinforced its position as a regional energy hub, contributing to the diversification of energy supply and greater energy security across the region.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on Croatia's OECD accession process, continued U.S. support for Croatia's accession, and the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation.
Both sides reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening cooperation and continuing to work together on initiatives aimed at promoting the long-term stability of Southeast Europe, based on a shared commitment to Western values and standards.
The meeting confirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations, and the two sides agreed to continue their close dialogue on issues of shared strategic interest.
