Wrangell-St. Elias Hosts Middle School Students for “Chosen Frozen” Event

COPPER CENTER, Alaska - The National Park Service, in partnership with community, state, and federal organizations, hosted students at a Chosen Frozen educational event on Friday March 27, 2026. The hands-on event introduced participants to wilderness safety, fire making, tracking and trapping, and snow science.

"It's exciting to see Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve help build real-life skills for kids to safely recreate in our park and surrounding communities," said Joshua Scott, acting park superintendent.The National Park Service thanks event partners including:

  • Alaska State Troopers.
  • Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
  • Alaska Department of Natural Resources - Division of Forestry and Fire Protection.
  • Bureau of Land Management.
  • Copper River School District.
  • Wrangell Institute for Science & Environment (WISE)

The National Park Service looks forward to hosting this annual educational event in future years to continue to share outdoor experiences with the youth of the Copper River Basin in the national park in their backyard.
