University Health opens new Electrophysiology Lab

University Health is thrilled to announce the opening of its new, state-of-the-art Electrophysiology (EP) Lab.

The new EP Lab expands the hospital's ability to provide advanced cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures, including ablations to treat atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. This means patients can receive more of their care right here at University Health.

Cindy Sheets, cardiovascular systems director, shared her excitement at the recent ribbon cutting ceremony for the new lab. "It's been a long time coming. Our early conversations about the new EP Lab began nearly three years ago. All of us on the team are thrilled that this day has finally arrived."

University Health President and CEO Charlie Shields echoed that excitement.

"The greatest benefit of this new EP Lab is what it will mean for our patients. It will allow us to perform a wider range of important procedures that previously required referrals to other hospitals," Shields said. "Now our patients can receive more of the care they need right here, from this amazing team of providers we all know and trust."

Dr. Michael Giocondo will lead the new lab, bringing 19 years of experience performing EP procedures. Cathy Dunker, the lab's supervisor, recently joined University Health with 26 years of experience.

This expansion represents a significant investment in our patients, the growth of our cardiovascular services and the future of health care in our community.

University Health is grateful to its cardiology and clinical teams, along with the many individuals whose dedication and collaboration helped make this new laboratory possible.
