FEMA Announces Nearly $10 Million for Florida Recovery

LAKE MARY, Fla. - FEMA announced nearly $10 million in funding for eight recovery and mitigation projects to help Florida communities recover from various hurricanes and other disasters.

The funding is part of more than $308 million that FEMA announced for almost 150 projects nationwide.

FEMA is awarding nearly $5 million through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for a project that will prevent, eliminate or reduce future disaster-related damage. The state will receive nearly $5 million for the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority to harden drinking water pipelines for the Snake Creek transmission system.

FEMA also is awarding $4.7 million for seven Public Assistance projects to reimburse Florida for the costs of permanent repairs to public facilities and debris removal. Notable projects include:

• $560,000 to Bay County for debris removal, including nearly 74,000 cubic yards of demolition debris from 340 private properties.
• $490,000 to the city of Lakeland for management costs related to recovery projects including debris removal, emergency response, facility repairs and power restoration following Hurricane Ian.
• Nearly $400,000 to the city of Parker for repairs to the citywide stormwater collection system, including stormwater outfalls, retention ponds and drainage structures damaged by flooding.

These projects are the latest examples of billions of dollars in disaster recovery provided by FEMA to support state and local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.
